She is the 3rd born daughter, born in a barn, to a human father and half orc mother Nikola and Saerah Haugen. Her family have been hog farmers for the past two generations. She has two older brothers, Timo and Tella who always picked on her as being the runt of the family. One day when she was working in the field a random lightning bolt struck her in the chest, leaving lichtenberg figures burned into her arms and chest. When she came to she was in her bed with her family all around her. Despite being hit and close to death she never felt so full of life. No longer the runt in her family she was able to manhandle her brothers and then random bullies.

Eventually, one of her tussles was seen by Torrin McCabe the owner of a traveling circus. He took her under his wing and trained her to be a strong woman and wrestling attraction. She would don her costume as Wrath-Hog and astound the audience with not only her feats of strength but also her fiery and feisty temperament. Eventually, she started to feel a sense of wanderlust and was desperately hopeful for a new kind of excitement to appear in her life. Little did she realize that the excitement she craved would appear at her small carnival show…

Gynnie “Wrath-Hog” Haugen

A sideshow strong-woman turn adventure.

Race: Half Orc +2 Str, +1 Con

(Standard Array)

Str 13 Dex 14 Con 15 Int 8 Wis 10 Cha 12 (base stats)

Str 15 Dex 14 Con 16 Int 8 Wis 10 Cha 12 (racial adjustments)

Class 6 Barbarian (Path of Storm Herald)

The three things that I wanted to achieve with this build are:

  1. A really interesting character to role-play adventures with.
  2. A capable strong-woman living up to the moniker of Wrath-Hog.
  3. A sturdy front line fighter with a unique source of power.

For the Race of this build I went with Half-Orc. Strong, tough and resilient the half orc is known for not only facing hard times but also for persevering through those hard times. Those traits are represented with menacing and relentless endurance. Savage attacks is just a nice damage cherry on top. I also wanted a race that was at least a medium size so when the character does get into grappling they can grab large creatures as well.

For the stats I went with Strength, Con then Dex. I also chose to keep charisma a little high since this character relies on being able to put on a show through her force of personality.

Class wise there are many ways to go for a strong grappler tank type of character. For this character I chose Barbarian. Unarmored defense is a good start defensively, especially when the character is wearing their costume. Having the ability to rage, which give you advantage on strength checks, is a huge bonus. I choose Athletics and Perception for the skills. Athletics in order to showcase the character’s strength while Perception aides in keeping an eye out for the dangers in the hustle and bustle of the carnival show.

Background for this character is one of Entertainer which is perfect for a strong-woman act in a circus. It gives this character the skills of acrobatics and performance, the disguise kit proficiency and the drum skill.

As we continue down the barbarian class I chose the primal path of storm herald. I ended up leaning more into the story for the character and decided to go for sea as the focus of her path. It gives you the option of targeting enemies of your choice as opposed to everyone around you, reducing friendly fire incidents. At level 4 the build reaches its final piece with the tavern brawler feat. This gives increased strength, improved weapon usage, unarmed strike and grapple ability on a bonus attempt.

Extra attack, fast movement are great bonuses. Then at level 6 the storm soul feature is great with lightning resistance, breathing underwater and a swim speed.

Spells

No spells just physical damage.

Equipment
