Basu was a young tabaxi living on the streets of a middle-sized port city. Here, Basu spent his days being a cutpurse and generally thieving his way through life. One day he tried to pickpocket the wrong nobleman on a rainy day only to have a quickly drawn blade levied at his throat. Rather than being run through the nobleman took the young Basu under his wing and trained him in the way of the blade. He taught Basu the arts of swordplay and manipulation and encouraged the quick-learning tabaxi to develop a wide array of talents and techniques. Finally reaching his full potential the nobleman switched from trainer to more of a supplier of jobs allowing his apt pupil the chance to grow his career and talents in the world.

Str 10 Dex 16 Con 14 Int 10 Wis 12 Cha 14 (racial and feat adjustment)

The three things that I wanted to achieve with this build are:

  1. Swashbuckling Bladework.
  2. Persuasive Force of Nature.
  3. Rapid Shining Blade.

Background

For Background, I chose Criminal for Basu. This gives him the skills of Insight and Investigation, the Tool Proficiencies of Dice Set, and Leatherworker’s Tools with the Background Feature of Criminal Contact.

Class

For the Class makeup of this build, I went with Rogue 3 (Swashbuckler)/Bard 3 (College of Swords). With these classes, he gains a massive array of skills, quick on-his-paws actions, inspirational tales to enhance his allies and disenfranchise his foes, and a whirling dervish blade that strikes fear and inspires awe. Combined with his racial abilities makes Basu a living legend with stories to rival all tales.

Rogue 1 is the beginning of Basu’s life with the skills of Deception, Acrobatics, Sleight of Hand and Persuasion, Expertise in Persuasion and Acrobatics, Sneak Attack of 1d6, and Thieves’ Cant.

Rogue 2 is where he gains Cunning Action. This gives him the ability to take a bonus action of Dash, Disengage, or Hide.

Rogue 3 is when Basu finally hones his skills enough to be the Roguish Archetype of Swashbuckler and Sneak Attack of 2d6. With Swashbuckler he gains the features of Fancy Footwork and Rakish Audacity. Fancy Footwork allows Basu to deny a foe he attacks the ability to make opportunity attacks against him. Rakish Audacity gives him a bonus to Initiative rolls with a Cha bonus as well as being able to use his sneak attack when not near another ally.

Bard 1 is where Basu picks up the skill of Performance and the Tool Proficiency of Drum, Spellcasting, and Bardic Inspiration.

Bard 2 sharpens his abilities of adaptation when he picks up the features of Jack of All Trades and Song of Rest.

Bard 3 is the last level for Basu with him ascending his duelist skills to their zenith with the Bard College of Swords and Expertise in the skills of Perception and Stealth. College of Swords grants him the proficiencies of medium armor and the scimitar as well as allowing him to use his know simple or martial melee weapons as a spellcasting focus. He gains the Fighting Style of Dueling and the Blade Flourish which either enhances his defense, deal extra damage to foes around himself, or moves a foe to an unoccupied space before stepping up to his chosen foe.
