Seebo Shadowcloak is the daughter of a human courtier father and gnome herbalist mother. When she wasn’t learning healing herbs with her mother she was sneaking into her father’s study listening to his dealings and reading what missives she could find in his waste basket. By the time she was of age to attend schooling her father pulled some strings and got her into a prestigious university to help sate her inquisitive nature. While Seebo was away she received news that he father had suddenly passed away under suspicious circumstances. Despite her numerous inquiries about what happened, she could never get the full story. Filled with a sense of determination to find out the truth, she poured herself into her studies and developed her skills and talents to become one of the kingdoms promising new investigators. She trained her body and mind, sharpening her skills in martial combat at a local monastery for six months. Now she uses her abilities to seek out clues about her father’s death while investigating the high crimes in low places throughout the kingdom.

Seebo Shadowcloak

Race: Forest Gnome +2 Int, +1 Dex, Darkvision, Gnome Cunning, Natural Illusionist, Speak with Small Beasts.

Stats (27- point buy)

Str 9 Dex 13 Con 12 Int 13 Wis 14 Cha 13 (base stats)

Str 9 Dex 14 Con 12 Int 16 Wis 14 Cha 13 (racial and feat adjustment)

The three things that I wanted to achieve with this build are:

  1. Investigative Champion (aka Sherlock Holmes-styled build)
  2. Insightful Martial Combat.
  3. Keen-Minded Viol Player.

Race

For the Race of this build, I went with Forest Gnome. With Forest Gnome she gains +2 to Int, +1 to her Dex, Natural Illusionist, and Speak with Small Beasts.

Background

For Background, I chose Investigator. This gives her the skills of Survival and History, Tool Proficiencies of Disguise Kit and Viol, and the Background Feature of Official Inquiry.

Class

For the Class makeup of this build, I went with a mix of Rogue 5 (Inquisitive)/ Monk 1. With this combination of classes, she gains a fantastic suite of skills, abilities to search out the truth and discern facts, a steel trap for a mind, and increased damage through multiple uses of sneak attack and skilled unarmed fighting.

Rogue 1 is the beginning of this build with the skills of Investigation, Insight, Perception, and Deception, Expertise in Investigation and Perception, Sneak Attack, and Thieves’ Cant.

Rogue 2 is where Seebo picks up the features of Cunning Action. This gives the ability to use her bonus action to Dash, Disengage, or Hide.

Rogue 3 grants her the Roguish Archetype of Inquisitive. With Inquisitive she gains Ear for Deceit, Eye for Detail, and Insightful Fighting. Now she can detect lies easier, spot hidden creatures or objects as a bonus action, and use her sneak attack against a foe even if you don’t have an advantage on attack.

Rogue 4 is where she picks up the Feat: Keen Mind. This increases her Int by +1, allows her to always know where north is, the number of hours left before sunrise or sunset, and can accurately recall anything you have seen or heard within a month’s time.

Monk 1 is where Seebo is trained in Unarmored Defense and Martial Arts.

Rogue 5 is the final level for this build with the feature Uncanny Dodge. This will allow Seebo to negate half the attack’s damage using your reaction.

Spells

Gnome

Equipment

Standard Rogue equipment with Shortsword and Leather Armor. Pick up a Disguise Kit when you get the chance.
