Ibanari is the secret daughter of a local lord and his concubine. Once she was born her fiendish traits angered the lord greatly as he sent his concubine out from his compound to fend for herself on the outskirts of his lands. It was here where she would grow amongst other outcasted souls and create a small community deep in the woods, at the edge of the lord’s forest. As Ibanari grew she learned the wood-crafting trade from a kindly middle-aged man named Denton. He was a retired wandering ronin who settled in this small shanty town to live out the remainder of his days. Denton would eventually marry Ibanari’s mother and take her as his adoptive daughter. Life in this small outcast village was peaceful up until the day the local lord was told of a small outcast village living on the edge of his lands not paying taxes. Enraged the local lord led a small armed force to visit pain onto the village. Ibanari was out with Denton gathering wood when they saw the light of flame coming from the village. Once they arrived they saw the aftermath of what the lord’s forces had done. They also found Ibanari’s mother burning remains in the wreckage that she once called home. Ibanari swore to oppose the lord and avenge her mother’s death. Since then she has learned to harness her innate fiendish nature as well as polish her swordsmanship at the tutelage of her adoptive father. Now, she wages a guerrilla war against the local lord as she seeks to undermine his authority and free the people from his oppressive rule.

The three things that I wanted to achieve with this build are:
- Hard-Hitting Melee Damage.
- One Woman Army.
- Heroine of the People.
Race
For the Race of this build, I went with Levistus Tiefling, With this race, she gains +2 to Cha and +1 Con, Darkvision, Hellish Resistance, Legacy of Stygia.
Background
For Background, I chose Folk Hero. This gives her the skills of Animal Handling, Survival, Tool Proficiencies of Vehicles (Land) and Woodcarver’s Tools and the Background Feature of Rustic Hospitality. Rustic Hospitality gives her a place to hide, rest or recuperate amongst fellow commoners.
Class
For the Class makeup of this build, I went with a mix of Fighter 4 (Samurai)/Paladin 2. With this combination of classes, she gains the ability to levy heavy melee damage through the combo of Divine Smite, Great Weapon Master, and the Samurai Fighting Spirit feature. She has limited crowd control ability with her racial darkness spell and her fighting style Blind Fighting. Lastly, she is capable of standing toe to toe with the toughest foes with her multiple ways to gain temporary hit points as well as healing from a myriad of sources. With these skills and abilities, Ibanari is a harvesting scythe in any frontline fight. I would weave her two classes as you level to gain the most balanced approach to her build.
Fighter 1 is the beginning of this build with the skills of Athletics, Perception, Fighting Style: Great Weapon Fighting, and Second Wind.
Fighter 2 is where Ibanari gains the powerful feature of Action Surge.
Fighter 3 grants her the Martial Archetype of Samurai. She gains the Bonus Proficiency of Persuasion and Fighting Spirit. This gives her temp hit points as well as advantage on weapon attacks until the end of the current turn.
Fighter 4 gifts her the Feat of Great Weapon Master. This feat will give her an extra melee attack on a critical hit as a bonus action as well as the ability to inflict heavy damage when she takes a penalty to attack.
Paladin 1 is where she picks up Divine Sense and Lay on Hands. Now she can sense the locations of celestials, fiends, or undead near her as well as the ability to heal with a touch.
Paladin 2 is the final level for Ibanari’s build with Fighting Style: Blind Fighting, Spellcasting, and Divine Smite.
