Camden De’lonce is the oldest son of a rock gnome inventor father and a shopkeeper human mother. Growing up in a large city he was surrounded by the hustle and bustle of technology and the flourish of the musketeer’s blades. So enamored by these soldiers that Camden started to attempt to become one. He was smaller than most of his peers but what he lacked in physical strength he more than made up for with his intellect and wiry reflexes. He used the teachings of his father and combined them with his own knowledge of the arcane to become a Battle Smith. Now he charges into battle upon his mighty mechanical wolf laying the foes of his country to waste with his arcane enhanced musket, sharp rapier, and spellcasting prowess.

The three things that I wanted to achieve with this build are:

  1. Hard-Hitting Intellect.
  2. Mounted Mechanical Steed.
  3. Armored Mobile Torrent.

Race

For the Race of this build, I went with a Custom Lineage. This race gives him +2 to Int, size small, feat: Mounted Combatant, Darkvision, and the language Gnomish.

Background

For Background, I chose Mercenary Veteran. This gives him the skills of Athletics, Persuasion, Vehicles (Land), Playing Card, and the Background Feature of Mercenary Life.

Class

For the Class makeup of this build, I went with a mix of Artificer 5 (Battle Smith)/Fighter 1. With this combination of classes he gains the ability to become a front line fighter with the use of his heavy armor and Extra Attack feature, mounted mobile ranged combatant, and a strong magical prowess. This build is capable of strong ranged and melee damage, a strong mechanical assistant that serves as a mount, and fierce magical power that serves to give Camden options in a battle.

Artificer 1 is the beginning of this build with the skills of Perception, Arcana, and Smith’s Tools, Magical Tinkering, and Spellcasting. Magical Tinkering gives him a few useful magical sparks to invest into mundane objects.

Artificer 2 gives him Infuse Item and Artificer Infusions. With Artificer Infusions, he gains Armor of Magical Strength, Enhanced Defense, Mind Sharpener, and Enhanced Weapon.

Artificer 3 is where Camden becomes a Battle Smith. At this level, he gains The Right Tool for the Job, Tool Proficiency, Battle Smith Spells, Battle Ready, and Steel Defender.

Artificer 4 is the level where he gains the feat Gunner.

Artificer 5 grants Camden Extra Attack.

Fighter 1 is the last level for this build. This level gives him Fighting Style: Archery and Second Wind.
